The Monarch Butterfly Song

Good morning Little Frog,

One of your Two Tutus is still asleep wrapped up in his sea of blankets. That's Tutu Pete. He loves lots and lots of blankets.

One of your Two Tutus is awake and wrapped up in her cozy red robe. That's me. I love my cozy red robe.

You, Little Frog, are wrapped up in the precious warm ocean carried by your Mom.

The other day your Dad sent the picture you see up there. 🠉🠉🠉🠉

Wow, that's a wonderful thing your people -- your Mom and Dad -- built to keep the caterpillars from being eaten up by the hungry birds. Everybody has to eat, but sometimes smaller people need a little help. That's what's happening in that big, white, tunnel made from cloth or netting that lets in lots of air and light. Good thinking!!

Someday when you leave your private ocean and are out in the world with eyes open, breathing the air of Kane'ohe you can see those caterpillars and Monarch Butterflies for yourself.

Here's a man playing a guitar, teaching people to play a very cool song called "The Monarch Butterfly Song." The song tells about the Monarch Butterflies fly, fly, flying away to warm and sunny Mexico (that's a country you'll learn about later) before it gets cold and snowy (you'll find out about cold, and about snow later, too). What's really wonderful is you live in a place that is warm and sunny and not Mexico. The Monarch Butterflies love to live where you live!

Your Daddy might like the song. He's good at playing the guitar, and could learn this song. Maybe he'll play this song for you and your Mom. We'd love, love, love to hear him play it, too.

Ahui hou sweetie pie. See you soon Butterfly. 🦋

😘😘😘

The Mo'o Quilt

Once upon a time, Carter, there was a mo'o. This mo'o was an old woman who had so many stories living in her it was sometimes hard to tell where one story started and the next began.  So, that clever old woman took to her favorite tools, and began to sew and stitch. The Mo'o had bits and pieces of cloth that she was fond of. One bit was actually old pillow cases, washed and cleaned, and filled with the dreams and journeys that spilled from your Two Tutu's heads when they slept upon the pillowcases.  The other bit of cloth was a colorful, never-used before cloth filled with Bird of Paradise flowers.  The Mo'o cut and laid out the two bits of cloth imagining how a blanket could be sown together to be a story quilt for a very special family -- her family/your family, Carter -- who lives across the Great Moana Nui, the great big Pacific Ocean.  Once a picture was pa'a in The Mo'o's mind she pulled out her sewing machine and sewed the bits of cloth that had B...

Circle Game

Good morning Little Frog, Last night was a very chilly night. Winter is coming to this Camp Bamboo. Mahina, the moon, was just coming up. I could see her behind the trees. I was thinking about you, and your Dad and  your Mom. I took a chance the little cellphone would be in the vibe, and connection flow.  It was that kind of night, I called your daddy's number, the little cellphone was IN THE VIBE. I was leaving a message. But I saw your daddy was already calling me back! Your daddy was in the yard, watering. He talked about the tomatoes growing, especially curious he was, about the little yellow pear-shaped tomatoes that grow on a different kind of vine. I said I knew those tomatoes and like the taste of them. We had one beautiful and magic conversation while Mahina watched us. It's a very good year for avocados. Yum, lucky you folks!! "The midwife came for breakfast today," your daddy said.  "WOW!" I said. It was a very cool thing to know a 'baby-catc...
